The FBI Files
Produced with the full cooperation of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Through dramatic reenactments and interviews with agents and scientists' viewers witness the actual process of some of the FBI's most famous investigations.
Price of Greed
An armed robbery is a terrifying ordeal. When a gang descended on a Los Angeles cash vault, they threatened to kill anyone who resisted. The violent assault was the largest heist in U.S. history and a piece of plastic was the only evidence.
Caught in the Act
Surveillance video is often the most precise witness to a crime. After three brutal murders were caught on tape in Alabama, the suspects fled the area. They had an arsenal of stolen weapons, and swore they wouldn't be taken alive.
In Pursuit
When law enforcement officers become targets, no one is safe. So when a crystal meth dealer on the run from the law began shooting cops, it took more than police to stop him.
High Stakes
Women are most often assaulted by someone they know. Near Las Vegas in December of 2000 a young woman became the latest victim of a violent sex offender. Before authorities could locate him, he would add murder to his list of crimes.
Home Invaders
Too often, convicted felons learn new techniques and find new partners in prison. In 1982, a group of former inmates began a spree of kidnapping and robbery.
Tracks of a Killer
From California to Kentucky, few living near a railroad felt safe in the summer of 1999. A serial killer, rode the rails, picking towns and victims at random. He left behind a trail of bloodshed, but no trace of where he would turn up next.
Lawless
A criminal who kills a police officer wages war on society. In 1987 such a criminal vanished after shooting two Boston officers, one fatally. He had a history of violence against cops and the protection of a group of outlaws.
Cruel Revenge
A kidnapping can shatter a family, bringing terror and heartache without warning. In 1984 with the flash of a gun, an ordinary business transaction became a violent abduction. In seconds, the son of a wealthy Miami developer was gone.
Held Hostage
When a bank teller arrived at her parent's home the gunmen were already there. The robbers held her family hostage and forced her to empty a bank vault. If she didn't comply she could lose everyone she loved.
The Initiation
When gangs go to war, they don't care who gets in the way. In 1988 an innocent man was gunned down near Cleveland, Ohio, a victim of a deadly initiation.
Dark Woods
While camping with her family in Montana, a seven-year-old girl was abducted from her tent. No one in the campground witnessed the crime and the kidnapper left no clues.
Domestic Terror
When a paramilitary faction used bombs and robbery to further their cause, they crossed the line. The well-organized terror cell was difficult to define, and even harder to stop.
Fatal Friendship
In 1992, a woman disappeared from her Memphis home. When the ransom went uncollected, the FBI suspected a desperate amateur and feared the worst.
Death Pact
The average bank robbery yields roughly 3,000 dollars. Yet some criminals risk everything for the take. In suburban Chicago, a disguised gunman began a series of robberies, growing more violent with each one.
Broken Trust
Murder-for-hire is a complex crime. Solving it means finding the killer, and whoever paid for the hit. In South Carolina a death first ruled accidental was no accident, but that was just the beginning.
Criminal Enterprise
Caught in the act, a disguised bank robber hurled explosives at police and disappeared in a hail of bullets. When police identified the suspect, they connected him to an armed kidnapping, but they couldn't find him.
Fateful Crossing
When the victim of a violent crime is a member of law enforcement, the job of investigating becomes personal. At a United States border crossing, armed fugitives kidnapped a customs' inspector then vanished.
Deadly Influence
In the 1980's, thousands of violent criminals flooded into America from Cuba and Colombia. Drugs hit South Florida and the area bloated with illicit wealth became a violent powder keg.
