Comedian Don Rickles guest stars as Newton Monroe, an itinerant peddler who seems unable to do anything right.

Deputy Barney Fife helps Opie with his schoolwork, using a teaching method all his own.

Opie and the Carnival,

Opie tries to win a birthday present for his father at a carnival, not realizing that the carnival shooting gallery is crooked.

Banjo Playing Deputy,

Jerry Van Dyke, brother of Dick Van Dyke guest stars as a carnival's destitute banjo player. He also proves to be an inept lawman when he is hired in Barney's Fife's absence.
