Magic of the Moon
The moon - since humans have existed on Earth, it has been our nocturnal companion. It still fascinates us more than any other celestial body. Its attraction has inspired artists to create masterpieces and pushed science so far that we left our planet...
Child of the Earth
What would people be without the moon? We owe its existence to a cosmic act of love: Scientists assume that the moon originated about 4.5 billion years ago through a collision of a planet with our earth. We all literally carry his DNA in us. But what makes our terrestrial moon so unique? And what do we humans owe to the distant celestial body? The first part of the series recalls the discovery of the moon by us humans. The documentary looks back and combines a look into the past with current research and entertaining excursions into the history of culture and humanity, in which the ordering power of the moon has always played a decisive role. Some of the most beautiful music compositions are dedicated to him. Like Claude Debussy's ode to the moonlight - "Clair de Lune". Since the beginning of time he is our nocturnal companion who lets us think about the nature of life. Fifty years after the first Apollo landings, the moon is back in focus. His fascinating saga still continues.
Goddess of the Night
Is the long-range effect of the moon really as great as popular belief claims? For example, 88 percent of the Germans believe in the lunar influence. The magic of the moon, is it myth or truth? The moon showed the early humans the right time for sowing and harvesting. From the four phases of the lunar cycle and the twelve constellations a astrological clock was created for the astrologers, a horoscope that not only reveals what the future holds or hinders the respective intentions. For the astrologers, the moon is like a compass that reveals what people are doing every day. The second part of the three-part series is dedicated to the myths and legends that humans have made us of our celestial body. Is the enigmatic attraction more than just a romantic feeling? Is there a secret bond between man and moon that seems to renew itself to the beat of the moon every time? Maybe that's why people all over the world are celebrating the moon. In India, the "Festival of Colors" takes place on the first full moon day of February. The message: The triumph of good over evil. At the Thai Festival of Lights, on a full moon, you grab all the trouble and resentment on a raft, and let it swim away. The passion between man and moon always finds new highlights.
The 8th Continent?
Fifty years ago for the first time astronauts in the shape of Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, put their feet on the lunar surface. But does the rendezvous in space remain the climax in the relationship between man and moon? Or could the moon become our second earth in the future, maybe even the eighth continent? If it’s after the space agency’s ESA and NASA, the time is right for a new moon mission. And this time it should not be for a simple excursion, this time the astronauts will come to stay. In the space agencies' assembly halls, technicians are working on the spaceship of the future: Orion, the new American-European space capsule, will bring astronauts to the moon for the first time after fifty years. Whether 2020, 23 or 25 are not clear yet, but the lunch should come. Scientists all over the world are already working on designs for lunar colonies, because there are already fantastic plans for the moon: in addition to research stations, mining should be carried out on a large scale. How realistic are the objectives of this planned moon mission, because the requirements for an extraterrestrial colonization are enormous. What does science hope for, from the new discovery of the moon? And will man treat the eighth continent more carefully than the earth after a successful colonization? Only the future generations will know.
