Episode 1
Happy families are all alike: every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.' Tolstoy's great novel begins with these words and the family we meet first - that of Stiva Oblonsky - is apparently of the second kind.

Episode 2
Annais traveling from St Petersburg to Moscow, so the unhappiness may be only temporary.

Episode 3
Levin, unaware of Kitty's humiliation, goes home to the country. Vronsky, determined on the pursuit ofAnna, is aided by his cousin, Princess Betsy. Vronsky's mother, too, sees no reason to disapprove.

Episode 4
Vronsky rides in the steeplechase at Tsarskoe Selo and Karenin, watchingAnna's reaction, is convinced of her infidelity. He decides to bring her to heel.

Episode 5
Anna and Vronsky can see no way out but Karenin decides on positive action. Meanwhile, Kitty and Levin meet each other accidentally. Levin, however, cannot bring himself to take further steps.

Episode 6
Karenin, in Moscow, has decided to divorce Anna. When her labour begins, she sends urgently, begging him to return. He does so and finds Vronsky waiting.

Episode 7
Kitty and Levin meet at Stiva's and their differences are resolved. Vronsky, recovering from his attempted suicide, has decided to accept a distant army posting but Karenin's actions change the whole complexion of things.

Episode 8
Anna and Vronsky return to St Petersburg and are made to realise that society will not forgive the scandal of their love affair.

Episode 9
Annais persuaded by Vronsky to ask her husband for a divorce, so that they may marry. But Karenin is now dominated by Countess Ivanovna.

Episode 10
The classic Tolstoy tale comes to a gripping conclusion.
