Campaigning is vigorous between the chief candidates in local election. The infamous Sean Dooley is up against Brian Quigley, who has the support of the church. Assumpta's ex-boyfriend, Leo McGarvey, is in town to cover the election for TV.

Father Clifford is dismayed when he is told he is to be sent back to England. His congregation is not happy at losing their nice young priest either. Meanwhile, Ballykissangel is preparing for its very first Irish Festival, organised by Quigley.
