Jane Eyre
A dramatization of Charlotte Bronte's romantic novel, the story follows Jane from childhood to her arrival at Thornfield Hall to tutor the young Adele. As governess, she falls for her master, but discovers on their wedding day that he already has a wife.
Episode 1
This new and complete dramatization begins with Jane as a neglected orphan child. Tormented by cruel cousins, unjustly punished by her aunt, Jane resists tyranny with the fiercely independent spirit that will later delight and intrigue Mr. Rochester.
Episode 2
Jane's open defiance of her unjust and tyrannical aunt has led to her being sent away from Gateshead Hall. She is to go to Lowood School, where 'there will be no softness.'
Episode 3
Conditions improve at Lowood School, and Jane finds a measure of contentment, first as a pupil and later as a teacher. But the departure of her beloved Miss Temple arouses all Jane's old restlessness, and she advertises for a post as governess.
Episode 4
Happy in her new post at Thornfield Hall, Jane gets on well with her new pupil Adele and the kindly housekeeper Mrs. Fairfax. Then she meets her employer, the disturbing and enigmatic Mr. Rochester.
Episode 5
Jane is fascinated and baffled by her employer, Mr. Rochester, who seems more than usually interested in her. One night Jane is awakened by mad laughter. She sees smoke and finds Rochester's bed in flames.
Episode 6
Mr. Rochester entertains guests, and his evident fondness for Blanche Ingram perturbs Jane. Mason's arrival gives Rochester a considerable shock. That night there's an alarm, Mason is attacked, and Rochester turns to Jane for help.
Episode 7
Summoned by her dying aunt, Jane returns to Gateshead Hall, the scene of her unhappy childhood. Mrs. Reed confesses that Jane's wealthy uncle offered to provide for her some years ago. To hurt Jane, Mrs. Reed told him that his niece was dead.
Episode 8
The wedding ceremony of JaneEyre and Mr. Rochester is interrupted by a lawyer, Mr. Briggs. He claims that the marriage cannot go on. 'Mr. Rochester has a wife now living
Episode 9
Jane wanders the moors, penniless, and starving. Exhausted, she lies down, surrendering to the elements. She is brought back from the brink by a faint light in the distance, growing closer. The lantern belongs to St. John Rivers, who rescues Jane.
Episode 10
Jane learns that she is the sole heir to her uncle's fortune, and subsequently, the Rivers family discovers her true identity. St. John asks Jane to accompany him to India as his wife.
Episode 11
Jane is about to accept St. John Rivers' proposal when she hears Rochester's voice calling to her. She visits Thornfield Hall and is horrified by its condition. She learns that Rochester's wife started a fire that kills her and leaves Rochester blind.
