Mama's Family
Thelma Harper and her spinster sister Fran open their home to Thelma's recently divorced son Vinton and his teenage son and daughter. It's quite an adjustment for everyone, especially the cranky, argumentative Thelma.
Vint and the Kids Move In
Mama's son Vint and his two children stop by to do some laundry. But while there, Vint ends up revealing that he has gotten evicted and they need a place to stay. Mama tells them they can move in with her.
For Better or for Worse
Naomi comes over and announces that she has sold her home and is going to move away. After drinking and celebrating, they return to Mama's, and Naomi ends up spending the night. Vint ends up asking Naomi to marry him.
The Wedding: Part 1
Naomi and Vint's wedding is coming up. While the women are having a little party, Ellen is worried that her husband Bruce is having an affair, and the family tries to tell her that he is not.
The Wedding: Part 2
The day of the wedding has come, and Mama is under a lot of stress trying to clean the house for the ceremony. She gives Vint her late husband's sapphire ring and tells him to not let Eunice know because she wants it.
Family Feud
Vint tells the family about his plan on taking Mama, Ellen, Naomi, and Buzz with him to play Family Feud. Mama is against going, but Vint tells her they need her because she is an important factor, being the "sweet old lady.
Cellmates
Eunice is given a surprise birthday party at the Bigger Jigger. The party soon takes a nasty turn, and Mama and Eunice get into a fight. They get arrested after accidentally hitting two police officers and have to share a cell.
Mama Gets a Job
Though Mama doesn't have experience, she lands a job as a receptionist. She is fired because of constant distractions from her family whose problems she solves quickly once she returns home.
Double Standard
Buzz and Sonja are getting ready for Homecoming, and Vint tells Sonja she has to be home early because she is a girl. When an angry Sonja returns home late, she and Mama have a talk, and Mama defends her rights as a woman.
Mama's Boyfriend
Mama runs into an an old flame, Woody Miller, who she is going out to dinner with. After dinner, the two go up to a cabin by the lake, against her family's wishes. She ends up going home the same day to the relief of her family.
Fran's Dress
Fran and Vint both have big nights which they are nervous about and ask Mama to iron clothes for them. Mama accidentally ruins Fran's dress and forgets to iron Vint's shirt because she isn't paying attention.
Alien Marriage
Claude comes up with a scheme, telling Vint that he could make nearly two thousand dollars by marrying a woman who needs her green card. Mama tells Vint if discovered, he could be in serious trouble and Vint decides not to do it.
Positive Thinking
Eunice buys a tape and begins thinking positively. She becomes very cheerful and finally gets a role in a production at the Playhouse. When the show's star, Sally, cuts her lines, Eunice and Sally fight.
Mama's Silver
Vint threatens to move out of the house after stealing Mama's silver and pawning it for bail money for his slacker friend Claude.
