Mama's Family
Thelma Harper and her spinster sister Fran open their home to Thelma's recently divorced son Vinton and his teenage son and daughter. It's quite an adjustment for everyone, especially the cranky, argumentative Thelma.
Flaming Forties
Buzz and Sonja think Mama's old 1940s clothes would be perfect for a school dance. When the theme of the dance is changed to punk, Mama heads to the school to get her clothes, saving the dance when the band doesn't show up.
The Return of Leonard Oates
Naomi's ex-husband comes to town with the goal of winning Naomi back. Vint believes Leonard has returned to make up for the bad way he treated her, and Naomi decides to tell Leonard that she won't leave with him.
Country Club
Ellen announces that she was named Raytown's Woman of the Year. At the Banquet, Ellen is having a delightful time, until her family arrives and embarrasses her at the Country Club.
Naomi and the Stork
Naomi isn't feeling well, leading Mama to think she is pregnant. The family starts fighting because none of them want to give up their rooms for a new baby.
Rashomama
Naomi, Ellen, and Eunice are in a panic at the hospital because Mama has had an accident. Vint comes and asks what has happened, but each of the women has their own tale about how it happened.
Obscene Call
Naomi gets an obscene phone call and doesn't tell the family until the guy calls again. The family unsuccessfully tries to figure out why this guy is after Naomi, blaming her in the process. The family later apologizes.
Ellen's Boyfriend
Ellen has met an attractive, younger man named Glen, but doesn't want Mama to meet him because of the age difference. After the family learns Glen is Ellen's new boyfriend, Mama freaks out.
Aunt Gert Rides Again
When the nursing home decides to throw a surprise party for Mama's Aunt Gert, Mama fears that she will end up bored in a nursing home like her. Mama and Aunt Gert ultimately liven up the boring event and everyone has fun.
Amateur Night
When a talent contest is announced at the Bigger Jigger, Vint is a big hit and ends up winning, but this starts going to his head.
The Mama Who Came to Dinner
Fran comes up with a way Vint and Naomi can have a dinner party. Mama is against it until Naomi says anything they could have at Mama's would be second-rate.
Mama Learns to Drive
Mama desperately wants to go to the mall and pick up a hat she really wants, but no one can drive her. The family attempts to teach Mama to drive which is unsucessful until Mama realizes she may lose out on her hat.
Black Belt Mama
Naomi returns from her self-defense class and shows the family what she learned. Fran and Sonja are impressed with what Naomi does and says and decide to join. After Mama is mugged, she decides to join as well.
Mama Buys a Car
When Mama decides to buy her own car from Vint's childhood friend, Willie Potts, she is dismayed that the car is a lemon and demands her money back.
Supermarket
Mama is getting annoyed with Naomi at Food Circus and tells all her customers to go to a different checker. Mr. Palmer, the manager, gets to talking with Mama, who gives him advice, and he ends up offering her a job.
No Room at the Inn
Vint takes Naomi to a romantic motel to celebrate their one-year anniversary, and Mama tags along to assist Aunt Effie, who fell. When Mama leaves Aunt Effie after a fight, she is forced to spend the night with Vint and Naomi.
Mama for Mayor: Part 1
Ellen talks Mama into holding Mayor Tutwiller's reelection campaign at her house, but when Mama ridicules the Mayor, he challenges her to run herself, much to Ellen's chagrin.
Mama for Mayor: Part 2
Mama is sworn in as Mayor and the whole family attends her inauguration, but she soon finds out that the job is not as easy as she originally thought.
Harper Versus Harper
Mama's vacuum cleaner has broken, and Vint tells her that she can use Naomi's. Mama uses it, but it blows up and ruins her rug. Mama and Naomi blame one another for this and take each other to court.
Mama's Birthday
It is Mama's birthday, and all she wants is for everyone to help her clean the attic. Buzz is the only family member to not make up an excuse, so he ends up helping her as she reminisces about her thirtieth birthday.
Mama Cries Uncle
Mama's brother-in-law Roy Harper has come to visit Carl for his birthday, not knowing that his brother is dead. Against Mama's wishes, Vint asks Roy to stay for a while.
Ask Aunt Fran
While filling in for an advice columnist, Fran uses Mama's advice and becomes a hit. Since Mama has given Fran all her advice, Buzz insists Mama gets half of the profits, but Fran refuses.
A Grave Mistake
Mama can't get anyone to go to the cemetery with her, so she just goes by herself. After arriving and having a long talk with Carl, she notices that the grave that is reserved for her actually has another woman there.
