Sydney Loofe was 24 years old, living in Lincoln, Nebraska, and just looking for a normal connection. She matched with a woman named Bailey Boswell on Tinder, and the two went on what seemed like a casual date. Sydney even posted a selfie that night, excited about meeting someone new. She was never seen alive again. When Sydney didn't show up for work and stopped answering her phone, her family knew something was terribly wrong. What followed was a massive search effort and an investigation that uncovered a nightmare no one could have predicted. Sydney hadn't just been murdered , she had been lured into a trap set by Boswell and her boyfriend, Aubrey Trail, a manipulative and dangerous man who had built an entire world of control around the people in his life. Investigators used cell phone records, store surveillance, and purchase receipts to piece together what happened. Trail and Boswell had bought tools, bleach, and trash bags before Sydney ever walked through their door. Trail eventually confessed to strangling Sydney, and her remains were found weeks later, dismembered and scattered across rural Clay County. Trail was sentenced to death. Boswell was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. Sydney was a kind, trusting person who did nothing wrong. Alice Ruggles was 24 years old, full of life, and doing everything right. She had a great job, an amazing group of friends, and her whole future ahead of her. But after ending a relationship with army soldier Trimaan "Harry" Dhillon, Alice found herself trapped in a nightmare she couldn't escape. Dhillon refused to accept the breakup and launched a relentless stalking campaign , showing up uninvited, flooding her with messages, and watching her every move. Alice did what she was supposed to do. She told people. She went to the police. And the system still failed her. In October 2016, Dhillon broke into Alice's flat in Gateshead and murdered her. He was later convicted and sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 22 years. But for Alice's family, no sentence could undo what happened. What makes this case so important is everything that led up to it, the warning signs that were there from the start, and the gaps in the system that allowed a known stalker to get close enough to kill. Alice's family has since founded the Alice Ruggles Trust, working to raise awareness about the dangers of stalking and push for stronger protections for victims. On July 2nd, she headed out for a run along a quiet road near Chania, like she did most days. She never came back. When Suzanne didn't return, her colleagues immediately raised the alarm. A massive search effort followed, involving local police, fire services, volunteers, and even her own husband and sons, who flew to Crete to help look for her. Six days later, amateur cavers discovered her body deep inside a WWII-era bunker built by the Nazis , hidden beneath an air shaft that had been covered with a wooden pallet. The investigation moved fast. Tire tracks found near the bunker entrance became a critical piece of evidence. DNA samples were collected from locals in the area, and within days, police zeroed in on a 27-year-old local man named Ioannis Paraskakis. After hours of questioning, he confessed. He told police he deliberately struck Suzanne with his car, loaded her unconscious body into his trunk, and drove her to the bunker where he assaulted and killed her. He was a married father of two and the son of a local priest , and during the trial, five other women came forward saying he had tried to run them down as well. On the night of May 28th, 2021, police superintendent Henry Jemmott , one of the most respected and high-ranking officers in Belize and a father of five , was found dead in the water near a pier in San Pedro Town on Ambergris Caye. He had been shot behind his right ear with his own Glock 17 service pistol. The only other person on that pier was Canadian socialite Jasmine Hartin, who was found drenched in his blood. Hartin wasn't just anyone. She was the former partner of Andrew Ashcroft, son of British billionaire Lord Michael Ashcroft , one of the most powerful families in Belize. The connection between a woman from that world and the death of a beloved police superintendent immediately made international headlines. Hartin's account of what happened that night raised more questions than it answered. She initially told authorities that Jemmott had been shot by someone passing by in a boat , a claim she later said she didn't remember making. Her story eventually shifted to a gun demonstration gone wrong, saying Jemmott handed her his weapon to teach her how to use it for self-protection, and that the gun accidentally went off while she was handling it in the dark. Jemmott's family didn't buy it. His sister, herself a police officer, publicly questioned how a trained superintendent's own weapon could end up firing a fatal shot behind his ear during a casual lesson on a pier. When he came home about an hour and a half later, he found Amanda on the floor, shot in the head. Their toddler was still upstairs in his crib, unharmed. Amanda was rushed to the hospital but died the following day. Her unborn daughter, Everette "Evie" Grace, did not survive either. Investigators quickly linked the attack to a string of home burglaries in the neighborhood that morning. Three men , Larry Jo Taylor Jr., Jalen Watson, and Diano Gordon , had been on a violent crime spree across Indianapolis. Police say they burglarized a home next door first, then watched Davey leave and saw an opportunity. But while police cleared Davey early in the investigation, the public wasn't so sure. The unlocked door, the timing of his gym trip, and the circumstances surrounding the crime fueled intense suspicion and conspiracy theories online that followed him for years. She claimed she had been beaten, trafficked, and sexually abused by a gang of Asian men in her town. The post was shared over 100,000 times. A massive online campaign called "Justice for Ellie" exploded overnight, rallies were held across the UK, and the community of Barrow was turned upside down. People were furious, demanding answers from police and accusing them of a cover-up. But the story Eleanor told wasn't real. None of it was. Investigators discovered that Eleanor had inflicted those injuries on herself with a hammer , one she was caught on CCTV buying from a local shop. She had fabricated text messages, created fake Snapchat accounts, and manipulated real people into sending messages she could use as false evidence. Some of the men she named were real, others didn't exist at all. Her lies stretched back years, going all the way to 2017, and targeted both Asian and white men with accusations of rape, grooming, and trafficking. The fallout was devastating. Three of the men she falsely accused attempted to take their own lives. One of them, Jordan Trengove, spent 73 days in prison and had the word "rapist" spray-painted on his house. Local businessman Mohammed Ramzan received countless death threats. Hate crimes in Barrow tripled in the summer of 2020, with police recording over 150 crimes linked directly to her allegations. Eleanor Williams was convicted on nine counts of perverting the course of justice and sentenced to eight and a half years in prison. The judge called her claims "complete fiction" and noted she showed no remorse. She was released early January 2025.

They had a daughter together. From the outside, things looked like they were falling into place. But behind closed doors, the relationship was anything but healthy. In October 2019, Elledge reported his 28-year-old wife missing, telling police she had walked out during an argument and may have run off with a man she'd been talking to online. He waited a day and a half before calling it in. Investigators found that suspicious from the start , and things only got worse from there. Before she disappeared, Mengqi had secretly sent photos to her mother in China showing bruises on their baby daughter, saying Elledge had pinched the infant when she wouldn't stop crying. Cell phone GPS data showed Elledge had driven for hours across multiple counties in rural Missouri the night Mengqi vanished, despite never telling police about it. For over a year, Elledge stuck to his story while investigators searched five counties by land and air. Then in March 2021, a hiker stumbled across Mengqi's remains buried in a shallow grave in Rock Bridge Memorial State Park. A juniper tree growing above the burial site became a key piece of evidence , DNA from the tree matched vegetation found in a pair of muddy boots seized from Elledge's apartment the night he was arrested. At trial, Elledge finally admitted he killed Mengqi but called it an accident , claiming he pushed her during an argument and she hit her head. The jury didn't buy it. He was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 28 years. He also pleaded guilty to child abuse charges and received an additional 10 years.

A well-respected urologist is shot and killed on the shoulder of the Ohio Turnpike, and his wife is right there when it happens. She calls 911, hysterical, saying a stranger walked up to their Jaguar, demanded her husband's wallet, and put a bullet in his head. The day after burying him, she sat down for a tearful TV interview and told the whole story again , the horrible voice, the random attack, the nightmare she couldn't wake up from. But none of it was true. Dr. Gulam Moonda was 69 years old. He'd emigrated from India decades earlier and became the first urologist in Sharon, Pennsylvania , a small-town doctor known for his generosity and warmth. His wife, Donna Moonda, lived large on his money. Behind his back, she was carrying on an affair with a 25-year-old man named Damian Bradford, someone she'd met in drug rehab. Prosecutors say Donna promised Bradford half of her husband's multimillion-dollar estate if he killed the doctor. And on May 13th, 2005, that's exactly what happened. Donna pulled their car over on the turnpike. Bradford, who had been following them, walked up and shot Dr. Moonda in the side of the head. The staged robbery was supposed to throw investigators off, but cell phone records quickly dismantled Bradford's alibi. Once caught, he flipped , agreeing to testify against Donna in exchange for a reduced sentence. He told the jury everything: the planning, the promises, and how two people conspired to kill a man who trusted the woman sleeping next to him. Donna Moonda was convicted. Bradford received 17.5 years and was released in 2021 , but just a year later, he shot a Pennsylvania state trooper during a convenience store robbery and was sentenced to up to 73 more years behind bars.

Thousands of students had passed through her classroom, and many considered her a second mother. At 61, she was just five months away from retirement. She never made it. On the morning of April 28th, 2014, 15-year-old Will Cornick arrived at school carrying two knives. He had already told at least ten other students exactly what he was going to do , who he was going to attack, where, and how. He even showed some of them the knife. Nobody believed him. Nobody reported it. They thought he was just talking. During Ann's Spanish lesson that afternoon, Cornick walked up behind her while she was helping another student and stabbed her seven times in the neck and back. One wound severed her jugular vein. Ann, who stood 5'2" and was described as petite and slight, never had a chance against a boy who was a full foot taller. She knew something terrible was coming. She just didn't know it would come for her. Ashley Dale was 28 years old, a rising star at Knowsley Council in Liverpool, recently promoted as an environmental health officer. She was career-driven, loved staying home, and by every account was building a bright future. But her boyfriend, Lee Harrison, was tied to a world she had no part in , the drug trade and an organised crime group called the Hillsiders. A feud between Harrison and a man named Niall Barry had been simmering for years, rooted in a dispute over stolen cocaine. When both men ended up at Glastonbury festival in the summer of 2022, it reignited. In the early hours of August 21st, 2022, a gunman named James Witham forced his way into Ashley's home in Old Swan, Liverpool, armed with a Skorpion submachine gun. He was looking for Harrison. Harrison wasn't there , he was out with friends. Witham fired ten rounds through the house. One bullet struck Ashley in the abdomen as she stood near the back door. In February 2025, Ashley's boyfriend Lee Harrison was jailed for five years for conspiracy to supply crack cocaine and heroin , never having cooperated with the investigation into her murder.

It started the way so many connections do now a message online. On Facebook to be specific. A man in Pensacola, Florida met a woman named Natalie Fonseca online and agreed to meet up with her. She told him she needed help with food and money for her kids. He thought he was doing something kind. When he got to her house, she introduced him to a man she called her "uncle" , Nafis Reynolds, who was actually her boyfriend. The three of them spent the evening together, went to a cookout, and everything seemed fine. But when the victim said he needed to leave, things changed fast. Fonseca got behind the wheel of his car, and Reynolds started beating him with a pistol. Fonseca, who spoke Spanish, told the victim in his own language that this was the night he was going to die. They robbed him of everything: his shoes, his phone, his money, and drove him to the Escambia River Bridge. There, Fonseca grabbed him by the hair while Reynolds slashed his throat three times, ear to ear. Then they threw him over the bridge railing into the river below and drove off in his car, which they later set on fire. But he didn't die. Against every odd, the victim survived the fall, held his neck together, and swam to a patch of land in the river. He waited there until dawn when a passing boater pulled him out. Bloody, barefoot, and barely alive, he walked to a gas station where he found a deputy and told them everything. He even used Google Earth to show investigators the house he'd been taken to. Eight days later, the pair lured another victim to their home and robbed them at gunpoint.
