A woman is found murdered in the middle of Øresund Bridge - right on the border between Sweden and Denmark. Saga Norén from Malmö CID and Martin Rohde from the Copenhagen police department are called to the scene. What at first looks like one murder, turns out to be two. The bodies have been brutally cut off at the waist and joined together - the torso of a high-profile Swedish politician and the lower body of a Danish prostitute. The Swedish and Danish police now need to cooperate in a race against the clock to find the culprit.

When a prominent Danish gender campaigner is found murdered in Malmö, Swedish detective Saga Norén is assigned a new Danish colleague, Hanne, to help with the investigation, but their relationship does not get off to a good start with feelings still running high about Saga's involvement in sending her previous Danish partner to jail for murder.

When Hanne is severely injured, detective Henrik Sabroe joins Saga in the investigation. When another murder occurs, bearing similarities to the first killing, suspicions fall on Danish blogger Lise Friis Andersen, who has openly expressed her aversion to the two victims, though she now denies the allegations. Meanwhile, the search continues for the son of the first victim, who is on the run. When Saga learns her superior, Hans, has been kidnapped, she shifts the focus of the investigation to finding him.

Saga begins to show signs of the strain she is under when her mother arrives at the station unannounced.

What is the connection between the victims? The relationship between detectives Sara Norén and Henrik Sabroe becomes more intimate.

With all resources focused on the abduction, Saga is brought back from suspension to help Henrik follow a lead on the kidnapper. The investigation into Saga's mother's death is complete, and Saga is finally allowed to read her own testimony before it is submitted to the prosecutor. Will she be convicted of murdering her mother?
